In 1998, as an outcome of a youth service project of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown, KEYS for the Homeless Foundation, Inc. was inspired by parishioner Valerie Guste Johnson’s recognition of the powerful influence the hospitality industry and other concerned businesses have in being a part of the solution to ending homelessness in our Nation’s Capitol

Over the past ten years, the generous involvement of our friends in the hospitality industry, other concerned business and the spirited good nature and hard work of our volunteers has enabled KEYS to establish partnerships with other organizations providing homeless services in the Greater Washington DC Metro area with a purpose of creating positive systemic change for the common good.

KEYS for the Homeless Foundation, Inc. received IRS 501c3 designation on October 15, 2005.

Today, the organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors composed of members of the Hotel Association of Washington, D.C., professional staff in higher education, and leaders in local civic and community organizations. Over 35 hotels have supported this socially economical, naturally productive initiative. Our work is having a significant impact on improving the lives and futures of men, women and children living in poverty and is also strengthening the model of corporate investment in the communities within which these companies operate by transferring valuable corporate resources to community agencies in substantial and meaningful ways.

We are inspired by the vision and dedicated leadership of our partners who provide homeless services to the most vulnerable in our community—daily. Our relationships with community leaders and service providers are KEY for securing brighter futures for us all. Our innovative drive is providing supportive assistance for clients to transition from homelessness and poverty to self-sufficiency. Our goals respond to providing for the core basic needs so necessary for securing stronger communities.

Through our distribution network, we hope to offer easy access to a valuable avenue for providing resources to those in need, moving us all forward in creating a solution for ending homelessness.
