Owner, Gregory Auger, President of USA Management timed the start of his renovation of The Courtyard by Marriott, Springfield, Va. during a marvelous season of giving! December ’07 was a perfect time for the arrival of gifts to be delivered to those in need. With the start-date in sight, KEYS Board Member, Anne C. Richeson, enthusiastically shared our mission with the Auger Family and it was soon thereafter, KEYS began planning the coordination and logistics for redistributing rooms and rooms of sofa beds, sitting room chairs and ottomans, televisions, artwork, mirrors, mattress sets, desk chairs and more to designated beneficiaries.
In support of Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s commitment to provide an increase in supportive housing to our homeless population, these goods directly met an immediate need for men, women and children. The strategy by USA Management, David Fehrmann, was a tremendous help to KEYS. It was apparent to USA Management that KEYS was not endowed with the square footage of storage space that was needed to handle the contribution. Floor by floor, contributions were removed with the help of Office Movers, and stored in containers that were placed in the parking lot so that KEYS could have easy access to move the donations as needed. It was a marvelous solution—and a most generous donation.
With the volunteer help of Mitch the Mover, and other dedicated movers, Mickey Graves and Kevin Duffy, over $9,000 in valuable donations were contributed to Pathways Housing, and others in assisting with individual client needs.
It was a monumental effort for KEYS to work efficiently with the projects timetable and in the months ahead, our work shared lasting gifts as a sign for a hopeful New Year. We thank the Auger Family for their tremendous support, the staff who kindly assisted KEYS in daily operations and are grateful to have served our community.
