The year began with a move! Plans were taking shape and on schedule. Just days after Inauguration, moving trucks and crew filed into place. Among the many logistics, prior to their move, the firm’s ‘planned giving-back to the community’ included bookcases, conference tables, leather conference chairs, file cabinets, tables, credenzas, desk-computer stations, stackable cubby files, and more. Although we were overjoyed, it was soon apparent that the costs to move the goods were going to be steep. Above and beyond the in-kind donation, Fitzgerald Moving Co. assisted in preparing the donations for pick up and Paxton Van Lines generously offered KEYS a fee a small non-profit’s budget could manage. Together, great teams of volunteers from New York Avenue Housing Assistance Center and a crew from Catholic Charities (for St. Elizabeths Hospital) worked together with the moving professionals. Two 17ft. trucks, filled to capacity, were on their way to another address. The Fair Market Estimated Value for their gift to KEYS’ partners was a gift of $3,695.00 and the resolution by the law firm to redistribute their resources remains a lasting community value for us all.
